The www.gourdgrower.com site went live. I am selling a few of the gourds I have decorated so I will have the space I need to place the new gourds I have decorated in the last few months.

I started decorating gourds some years ago, then started growing them so I could decorate 'My Gourds,' the gourds I grew in my garden in my back yard.

This waterlily plant has bloomed so often this summer. I bought this plant that I thought would be pink so I don't know it's name.

I got this cactus from my brother's farm and did not know where to put it so that's why it's in a pot. I will put the pot in the ground for winter protection. Free plants,a good thing.

The last and smallest gourd of 5 for 2005 season. Not at all what I thought I was getting but I'll take them anyway.

This gourd is hanging straight down, it's the photographer that wasn't. The brick is so the bottom would be flat for sitting. I hung it with twine to the trellis and would adjust it as needed. Probably my favorite gourd this year.

Here are my Swallowtail Butterflies. 6 in one picture. This has been a 'once-in-a-life' experience. All because I saw a wasp attack a caterpillar and I wanted to save what I could.

I guess I kept the butterflies to long. I was able to set 3 free and I lost 2 of them. I found them on the ground and will find a way to display them. 3 are unacounted for so I feel they freed themselves, I sure hope so.

To save the caterpillars the cage was smaller. This is my cage for keeping the butterflies around till I get home from work to see them.I included flower for them and will add a pan to water later. Any time after Monday I could have butterflies. Check back, Please.

My latest adventure has been Swallowtail Butterfly caterpillars. I saw one get attack by a wasp and I knew I had to protect them some how. So with stakes, clothes pins and netting I was able to save the rest of them, I have 7 Chrysalis now.They all look alike so I won't show you 7 pictures. Watching it go from a caterpillar to a chrysalis was awesome and only a movie camera would do it justice.

These gourds are probably dippers. They look like a bowl with a long handle. Abour 30 ins. long. 1 is straight and 4 are curved. Not sure what I will do with them.

This is my gourd patch for 2005. It is 2 plants and has 5 gourds. I planted seeds from a small gourd and got big ones.

June 21, 2005 This is my Mrs. Perry D Slocum Lotus. Very pretty. I am blessed with good neighbor to take this picture, I had to work. I have another bud and I hope to see it bloom

My newest passion is water plants. This is a lotus. Last year they had to much shade so I moved them to more sunlight. I sure hope I have blooms this year. Last year I did have a bloom from the real small lotus plant, very pretty.

Watching gourds grow is one of my favorite pasttimes in the summer. These 2 vines are med. kettles. I start them in esrly April under 3 litre soda bottles.

This is one view of my backyard. I have several perennials whick is nice so I don't have to buy plants every. Last year I saved several different kinds of seeds and have planted them. Looking forward to summer.

This is one of the gourds I painted. I really enjoyed raising the gourds. It's a joy to grow, paint, and share. I enjoy raising flowers, but after they bloom, I only have the photographs to remember them.
